How do I know if I have a ladybird infestation?
The Harlequin Ladybird has a varied appearance, which makes it difficult to separate from other native ladybird species. Yet there are clues to look out for. The Harlequin usually has a high number of spots on its elytra, between 15-21. The patterns may take the appearance of a grid formation and its size is approximately 7-8mm in length.
The Harlequin has been known to invade houses in the thousands. In fact they have been known to collect in buildings in the tens of thousands, especially during autumn and winter. When there is a lack of other foods Harlequins have a tendency to bite humans, leaving a small mark or swelling. Some people may even have an allergic reaction to a bite.
